AGRICULTURE INDUSTRY: Safety Snapshot Released
Agriculture is the industry with the highest number of fatalities per year with 40 people per year. This industry has accounted for the highest number of fatalities over the last five years.
The main causes of fatalities across all agricultural sectors is overwhelmingly vehicle incidents. Whereas most serious injuries occur by falls, being hit by animals and manual handling.
25% of all fatalities in agriculture are from vehicle incidents.
Demographically, most fatalities are workers aged 65+ years. The age group accounts for 36% of all events. Conversely, the most significant age bracket to file serious claims are workers aged 15-24 years.
The industry has seen significant improvement on safety levels and the number of incidents over time. However, there is still a long way to go.
